Floodline

  • Warnings and alerts

Floodline is the telephone route to the flood warning services. Gov.uk's check for flooding page lists it under "other ways to get this information" as a 24-hour service on 0345 988 1188, alongside the online service that shows current flood warnings and alerts, river, sea, groundwater and rainfall levels, and the flood risk for the next five days in England.

The gov.uk page for getting flood warnings by text, phone or email says that if you are in England, Scotland or Wales "you can sign up, update your details or cancel your account by calling Floodline". The online sign-up covers England only; Scotland's registration is through SEPA and Wales's through Natural Resources Wales, and both are reached from the same page.

The Be Ready flooding page adds that if you have a disability or need extra help "you can contact Floodline and ask for flood warnings to be sent to a friend or relative on your behalf". Floodline is not the number for reporting flooding: the check for flooding page says surface water flooding should be reported to the local council, and the Be Ready page gives separate routes for reporting river and coastal flooding to the Environment Agency.

In practice

One number, any hour, to register for warnings or ask about current flooding in England, Scotland or Wales.
